Cross-border safety, accident prevention and management

The CB-SAFE project promotes the development of border safety and security by increasing security awareness at border crossing points for passengers and improving the performance of rescue professionals by developing training and cooperation. Enabled by the project activities and results, the skills, safety knowledge and safety attitudes of passengers crossing the border are enhanced. The project catalysts the creation of continuous development process in the cross-border safety culture.



The performance and operational capabilities of rescue professionals will be improved, enabled by the virtual training and education environment developed in the project. The project also aims to improve the cooperation model of rescue professionals and to test the latest technology equipment for rescue situations.



The project brings together the key end-users and developers directly taking part in the joint activities, including dissemination and benchmarking the results. Thus, it is guaranteed that the goal of producing practical solutions is embedded in all project activities.



The project activities are conducted in three Work Packages:

1) Developing security and safety information, and information services, for cross-border passenger traffic;

2) Building a virtual training platform for the use of rescue professionals and students, and testing the newest technology equipment for rescue operations;

3) Improving cooperation between actors in the border area in rescue operations.



LAB University of Applied Sciences is the Lead Partner of the project. The partners are the South-Karelia Rescue Department, Kymenlaakso Rescue Department and the Saint-Petersburg University of State Fire Service of the Ministry of Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters.



The project is financed by the South-East Finland – Karelia CBC 2014-2020 programme.



Project duration is 1.1.2021 – 30.11.2022.
