Digitalization of teaching of solid mechanics project is a response to the direct needs caused by the COVID-19 situation. In the teaching of solid mechanics, due to transition to remote teaching, methods of traditional classroom teaching are not available anymore.

Digital tools and feedback from automated assignments provide a solution for overcoming this gap of current and needed learning methods, enabling individual support to those students who are having difficulties in completing the course. In mass and online lectures, it is often difficult to detect a student dropping off in time. In addition to helping students at risk of falling, the aim is to raise the level of mechanical skills of graduated students entering employment. In mechanics courses, that are commonly considered as challenging, students at risk of falling are often the ones who are the last to graduate. For them, mechanics courses often being the ones that delay graduation. The aim of the teaching model can contribute to graduation and increase the student's skills in the transition to working life.

The aim is also to provide students with a more independent way of studying, and thereby gaining the skill to function in a changed work environment due to the COVID-19 situation. In the project, benefits and usability of digital platforms (e.g. Stack) are evaluated in the formation of automated tasks, including functionality and pedagogical aspects in remote and e-learning.

In addition, the project will develop a model of contact teaching and personal guidance that utilizes automation in the mechanics course, with which students at risk of falling off will be detected (and personal support offered) in time. The results of the project are self-study material, tasks that can be checked automatically, and an assessment model of learning outcomes / competence. A report will be made on the evaluation of the impact of the results.
