International workplaces and experts in South Karelia and Kymenlaakso

Ministery of Economics Affairs and Employment of Finland has estimated that 60 000 jobs were not created in year 2018 in Finland because of talent shortage. There are already entire industries in Finland where the shortage of talents has put growth at risk, and South Karelia and Kymenlaakso region are no exception. In the same time hundreds of international students graduate from universities and vocational schools and faces a problem to find work in the areas. There is a mismatch issue, which is remarkable and needs actions.

This project looks for solutions to this multifaceted problem. The project uses co-creation, education and support to enterprises to be able to hire and engage international staff as means to tackle the problem. The project also develops universities and vocational schools’ processes to prepare international students to Finnish labor market. Important issues to address include supporting international talents and their families to find social networks and free time activities. Finally, the project collects and confirms the Regional International Talent Network to maintain support to enterprises and talents and develop further the common processes. The open network calls enterprises, authorities, research and education organizations, social organizations and students to join to the continuing co-creation processes.
