Kazakhstan Social Health Insurance Project - SHIP - Journey to a better Healthcare

Kazakhstan Social Health Insurance Project (SHIP) - Journey to the better healthcare through Modernization of Education System for Nurses. The project is coordinated by JAMK University of Applied Sciences, and implemented in a consortium with Häme and Lahti Universities of Applied Sciences, and Åbo Academi University as a subcontractor. The project is jointly funded by the Government of Kazakhstan and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.



The tasks set for the development project contain developing the educational system of nursing education, academic programs for nursing specialists, and professional environment for nursing. In addition, the project provides capacity building for teachers and nurses, and development of clinical training of nursing professionals, which are essential components in supporting the development of nursing education.

Objectives
The objective of this 2,5 year project is to provide technical and methodological assistance in modernization of educational system of nursing specialists.



This objective is divided into five tasks:

1. Improvement of educational system of nursing specialists

2. Improvement of academic programs for nursing specialists

3. Improvement of professional environment for nursing specialists

4. Further institutionalization of clinical training of nursing professionals

5. Development of educational programs for capacity building of teachers and nurses.
Outcomes
The expected outcome of the project is the support to the nursing reform in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The specific outcome is a competitive high-quality system for training nurses through:

1. Improved educational system for nurses

2. Improved educational programs of all levels in the “Nursing” specialty

3. Improved capacity of faculty of medical schools in all aspects of nurse training.
