Robots do not communicate with machines easily. This communication is even harder when it comes to mobile robots or collaborative robots. It is because that safety becomes a big issue in these cases. The main idea in this project is to address and solve the main challenges in front of achieving the idea of “Robotic based Manufacturing”. The plan is to address and solve the existing issues with an industrial level robotics-based manufacturing to build the fully functional and safe robot – machine communication.

Industrial robotics industry is on the verge of the large changes and Finnish economy is also showing signs of weakening due to other countries high competition factors. With Tiera platform Finnish economy could be boosted to support automatization industry and increase amount of jobs as companies wouldn’t have to shift to cheaper labor. Improved productivity means better competitive advantages against big countries who have better access to cheap labor and raw material resources.

Therefore, our concept is to develop a state-of-the-art robot-machine generic communication platform to make it possible for any robots to communicate in production lines with any manufacturing machines side-by-side of humans, safely and efficiently, for a 24/7 utilization of capital investments potentials on manufacturing machinery.

The primary guiding line and goal of this project is to prepare the commercialization of Tiera platform and carry out applied research which supports the commercialization. The main goal is on the commercialization preparation that would eventually lead to new business.

The main concept in this project is to test and develop a generic Machine - Robot communication platform with capability of connecting any robot to any machine with no need for extra programming.

In addition, we think we can solve the other problems in front of “Mobile Collaborative Robotic based Manufacturing” by the usage of a new generation of technologies and ideas. The goal in this project is to address and solve the main challenges in front of achieving the idea of “Robotic based Manufacturing”.

Our concept is to develop a state-of-the-art robot-machine generic communication platform to make it possible for any robots to communicate in production lines with any manufacturing machines side-by-side of humans, safely and efficiently, for a 24/7 utilization of capital investments potentials on manufacturing machinery.

Project expected results:

To proof the concept of possibility of having a generic Machine - Robot Communication Platform

To test the Machine - Robot Communication Platform market readiness via Proof of Concept testing

To decrease the costs of having a robot as a labor force in manufacturing line

To increase the load capacity of robots

To solve the safety issues regarding the usage of a robot in the manufacturing line to make it easier to get safety certificate

To add Internet of Things capability to manufacturing robot

To make it possible to use several robots and manufacturing machinery inside an intelligent network

To make robots fully autonomous
