Exemption from tuition fees -information for students from non-EU/EEA countries only

Passport or residence permit to Finland

Attach a copy of your passport or residence permit card to Finland if you are applying for the exemption of tuition fees on the basis of your residence permit. Note! Citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register.

You are exempted from paying tuition fee if you provide a copy of one of the documents below:

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland*
  • EU Blue Card in Finland
  • Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A-permit.
    (Type A-permit, granted for other than study purposes).
    Please note: if you have A-permit for study purposes, you have to pay tuition fee.
  • EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit
  • EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)

A copy of the document exempting from the tuition fee will be uploaded to the application by January 24, 2024 at 3 p.m. (UTC +2).

*Citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register.

The residence permit issued in Finland must be valid on 1.8.2024 to be exempted from the tuition fee in autumn 2024.

If you receive one of the documents mentioned above at any point of the admission process, please provide us the document as soon as possible. The copy of the card or the document can be delivered by email at admissions[@]lab.fi -  in case not available at the time other documents are delivered online.

If you have a Finnish residence permit card allowing you to get exempted from paying the tuition fee during the application period but it expires before starting your studies, you are required to pay the tuition fee. After renewing your permit card, you must e-mail a copy of your new Finnish RP card to lab.scholarship[a]lab.fi  ASAP.
