Nursing examination

Bachelor's degrees in Nursing differ from each other in Lahti and Lappeenranta Campuses so that applicants must have Finnish language skills when applying for Lahti Campus.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS IN FINLAND

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance examination of Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Health Care (Nursing) will not be arranged as planned on 31st March 2020 Finland.
 

New Online Entrance Examination of Nursing at Lahti Campus

The written part of the online exam is held on April 7, and the link to take the written test will be provided to those applicants, who have enrolled to the exam by the date set, on 6.4. by email.

If the written exam has reached the minimum level of the written exam, the applicant will be offered a chance to continue to interview -phase. Interview will take place either 15th OR 16th of April.

All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility will be invited to the entrance examination held on Tuesday 31 March 2020

  • at Lahti Campus, Mukkulankatu 19, Lahti.
    Nursing at Lahti Campus has no entrance exam co-operation with Lappeenranta Campus or other Universities of Applied Sciences.

    Applicants are expected to have Level A2 Finnish language proficiency as well as good oral and written command of English. These will be tested in the entrance examination, in case an applicant's mother tongue and/or schooling language is not Finnish.

    Nursing at Lappeenranta Campus co-operates with JAMK and Novia Universities of Applied Sciences.


Structure of the Entrance Examination:

Part A: Basic math test. This math test is screening out the applicants who do not achieve 10 points. If the result is less than 10 points, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The points of the math test are not included in the total points of the entrance examination. Minimum points 10/maximum points 20.

Part B (only used at Lahti Campus): Finnish language skills test (minimum requirement is level A2). This test is screening out the applicants who do not achieve 10 points. If the result is less than 10 points, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The points of the Finnish language test are not included in the total points of the entrance examination. Minimum points 10/maximum points 20.

Part C: Written part. This part contains an essay. There is written material (text) included.  This material for written exam will be from the field of social and health care, the applicant is allowed to utilize the given material in her/his essay. Minimum points 20/ maximum points 40. 

Part D: Group discussion. The entrance exams written part will be followed by a group discussion. In this part the supervisors evaluate group discussion skills and adequacy in English language. Minimum points 10/maximum 30.

The duration of the entrance examination´s written part will be 3 hours. For those whose native language is not Finnish, the written part contains also Finnish language test at Lahti Campus. It is compulsory and extra 30-minute time will be provided for the applicants of Lahti Campus.  Written examination is followed by the spoken group discussions. An English language skills test will be included to all applicants in the verbal and written parts of the examination.

If the result is less than minimum in any part, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The applicant must score at least 30 points in the entrance examination for passing the examination.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS OUTSIDE FINLAND

On the application form the applicant can choose the country, in which he/she wants to complete the entrance examination. Entrance examination countries: Brazil, China, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Vietnam

The entrance examinations abroad will be held between 10 and 15 March 2020.

The entrance examinations outside Finland will be organized in co-operation with FINNIPS network. http://www.finnips.fi/en/entrance-exams/

The result of the entrance examination completed outside Finland is valid only for the degree programmes of Nursing belonging to the FINNIPS network (JAMK and Novia).

The entrance examination consists of the following sections (min./max. scores):

•    Part A: Basic math test, where minimum points are 10 and maximum points are 20. If the result is less than 10 points, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The points of the math test are not included in the total points of entrance examination.
•    Part B: Written part. This part contains 2 essays. The first essay is testing the applicant’s motivation. In the second essay there is written material (text) included. The applicant is allowed to utilize this material in her/ his essay. Minimum points are 20 and maximum points are 40.
•    Part C: Group discussion is held to evaluate the applicant’s group discussion and spoken English skills. The minimum points are 10 and the maximum 30.

All parts of the examination are compulsory for all applicants. If an applicant fails to reach the minimum points in some of the sections, the exam is failed. The applicant’s language skills are evaluated based on both the written and the verbal part of the exam.

The admissions results are valid until the end of the application round in question.
