Transfer Student Admission

Students who have a study right in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in a Finnish higher education institution can apply for a transfer to LAB University of Applied Sciences.

The transfer student application is arranged twice a year. Application is submitted via the national studyinfo.fi portal. The transfer application is meant for students who have an active study right at a Finnish higher education institution.

The spring 2024 application period is 30 April at 8 a.m. - 14 May 2024 at 3 p.m. If accepted in the spring 2024 application, your study right will begin in August 2024.

The autumn 2024 application period is 29 October at 8 a.m.- 12 November 2024 at 3 p.m. If accepted in the autumn 2024 application, your study right will begin in January 2025.

The applicant must have studied in their current programme for at least one semester. The transfer cannot be applied earlier than the second semester. LAB University of Applied Sciences can accept transfer students if there are any study places available in the degree programme the applicant wishes to transfer to.

Already studying at LAB?

If you are a degree student at LAB University of Applied Sciences and wish to transfer to another degree programme within LAB, you must apply via internal transfer process.

Studying outside of Finland?

To be eligible to apply to LAB University of Applied Sciences via transfer application, you must have a study right at a higher education institution in Finland. If you are studying at a higher education institution abroad, you are not eligible to apply via this transfer application. International students are always selected through LAB Separate Application.

Eligibility

The applicant is required to have made consistent academic progress in their current programme. The studies they have completed prior to the transfer must be eligible for accreditation towards the new degree.
The applicant must have sufficient time left to complete the new degree programme within the official time limit.
The applicant is expected to write a motivation letter, in which they should state reasons for wanting to transfer to the degree programme in question.
In addition, when applying for Design and Fine Arts degree programmes, the applicant is expected to present a portfolio or pre-assignment. In order to be accepted, at least 50% of the maximum points in the assignment evaluation is required. Portfolio guidelines

If there are more eligible applicants than available study places, the applicants will be ranked according to

their academic progress and grades
their graded motivation letter

Schedule

Transfer application spring 2024

The results will be published on 20 June 2024 at the latest.
If offered a place, the place must be accepted and the enrolment for autumn 2024 semester must be done by 11 July 2024 at 15:00.

Transfer application autumn 2024

The results will be published on 10 December 2024 at the latest.
If offered a place, the place must be accepted and the enrolment for spring 2025 semester must be done by 20 December 2024 at 15:00.

Please note that not accepting the place by the deadline will automatically lead to losing the place.
