Conditions for student exchange

If you are interested in a student exchange period at LAB University of Applied Sciences, please contact your home institution's international office. You can be considered as an exchange student if there is a student exchange agreement between your home institution and LAB University of Applied Sciences. The home institution selects the candidates for student exchange. After you have been selected by your home institution to be a candidate for student exchange and your home institution has nominated you, you can apply as an exchange student at LAB. 

Nomination deadlines:

  • Autumn Semester/Academic year: 8 April
  • Spring Semester: 8 October

LAB also welcomes freemovers, however students coming outside of the LAB partner network are subject to a participation fee, which is 3000 euro per semester.

Application Deadline

  • Autumn semester/Academic year: 15 April
  • Spring semester: 15 October

Application Procedure

All exchange students apply to LAB University of Applied Sciences with the online application system, and all correspondence will be conducted by email. Please note that a valid and operational email address is essential for your application.

Please read through the application instructions step by step before starting the online application.  

Application Documents

After your home institution has nominated you, you will get an email invitation to register to our Mobility-Online system and fill in your application. After completing your application, upload the following documents to your account in LAB Mobility-Online:

  1. Passport size photo of yourself (max. 500 pixel x 500 pixel)
  2. Transcript of records in English (certificate of the courses you have completed)
  3. Learning agreement (study plan) according to the instructions in LAB Mobility-Online (available courses will be listed here)
  4. A certificate of competence in English level B2
    From home university language centre or teacher or copy of IELTS 6.0 test results or copy of TOEFL iBT 72 test results. NOTE! The students whose native is English, can attach a free-form document stating that the student's mother tongue is English.
  5. Copy of your passport/ID card
  6. Portfolio - only for students applying to Institute of Design and Fine Arts

After uploading the necessary documents, make sure to submit your application.

Learning Agreement (Study Plan)

Please choose the courses for your Learning Agreement from the list of your study field (can be found from "Studies" section). Note that exchange students are expected to complete 30 ECTS during the semester.

Erasmus+ students: Erasmus+ students' Learning Agreements are processed in Erasmus without papers network as data transfer. Erasmus+ students should therefore create Learning Agreement according to the instructions from their home institution in the system the home institution is using.

Non-Erasmus student: Non-Erasmus students should create a Learning Agreement in LAB Mobility-Online according to the instructions available on the platform.

Additional Portfolio for Institute of Design and Fine Arts

Institute of Design and Fine Arts requires a portfolio as an application document. Please read through the additional portfolio instructions before preparing your portfolio:

Think how to stand out from the crowd by presenting your best work in the best light. Be brave and unique. You should also add a motivation letter in your portfolio (max. 1 page). Tell about yourself briefly. Why do you want to study Design? What can you do? Why are you applying to this Department? What are your plans after studying? Tell briefly about your previous education and work experience or hobbies, how they have helped you to learn? Please read on for specific portfolio information for each Department.

Please send a digital portfolio. Upload your portfolio as PDF-file to your application documents in Mobility Online. Size max. 5MB. Name your file: Lastname_Firstname_portfolio_Departmentname.pdf
